FACKA is unique in that all of our events and sports leagues have a fundraising aspect. KIFAC started it all by donating money to the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) and that idea continues today. FACKA will make a donation on behalf of each of our leagues to CAF and all leagues also collect used shoes and cell phones for use by two other great organizations. Please read below for details on all of these groups.
The CAF works to ensure that people with physical challenges have the same freedom to enjoy sports that the rest of us take for granted. The equipment that allows physically challenged individuals to engage in active lifestyles is very expensive. In fact for many, it's cost-prohibitive. For example, a single handcycle runs upwards of $2,000 and a running prosthetic can be more than $15,000.
Through its grants, the CAF helps make it possible for physically challenged people of all ages and skill levels to gain access to this equipment and to the enhanced self-esteem that comes from participation in sports.
Whether it's specialized equipment, training, or arranging enthusiastic encouragement from a mentor who has triumphed over a similar injury, CAF's mission is clear: give those with the desire to live active, competitive lifestyles every opportunity to compete in the sports they love.
